Michael Faraday
Born the son of a blacksmith, Michael Faraday came to be known as the father of electromagnetism. He discovered the phenomenon known as the magnetic field that Charles Maxwell would later prove mathematically. He basically founded the fields of induction, diamagnetism, electrolysis and invented the very first electric motor, transformer, dynamo and generator. He is also known for inventing the Faraday Cage, discovering benzene, being the first to liquefy a gas and for having the unit for capacitance, the Farad, named in his honor.
